ELK COUNTRY ACCESSORIES
Factor 55 Sawtooth Recovery Kit
With a name like “Sawtooth”—reflecting some of Idaho’s finest and most rugged elk country—I had high expectations for the Factor 55 Sawtooth Recovery Kit when I packed my hunting truck this fall. Was I ever glad I had it.
The last leg of getting to our archery elk camp includes a steep and sloped road through a choked aspen thicket. Rain and snow have exposed multiple rocks to navigate, but typically dry September conditions keep tires in their lanes as we four-low to camp. This year we came in on the heels of a rainstorm that left standing water and slick mud. You can probably guess what happened next.
I stepped from my truck and bent to see the passenger side tires buried and my frame resting on a partially submerged rock. I could try to get dislodged from the quagmire with horsepower, potentially making the situation worse and damaging my vehicle or the already tenuous road. Or I could attach my WARN Evo winch to a nearby tree and safely get my truck back to drier ground. It wasn’t a hard decision.
The Sawtooth is the industry’s first fully-loaded vehicle recovery kit and had every piece of equipment needed for a safe and precise recovery. I pulled the nicely packed canvas bag from my toolbox and unzipped it to lay flat across the tailgate. Made in the USA components including Crosby shackles, tow straps of multiple lengths, rope retention pulley, Hitchlink 2.0 and a Tree Saver all came in a neat package for the many potential applications faced by anyone accessing the mountains.
Fortunately I did not face a complex recovery. With the Tree Saver attached to a nearby Doug fir, I ran my line through the rope retention pulley and positioned myself safely. The Evo came to life and within a minute my truck was back where it should be. A quick detach and we headed up the road to hunting camp.
Whether you need to give your hunting partner’s vehicle a simple pull with your truck or find yourself winching out of a hole, the Sawtooth Recovery Kit has everything covered for winching and non-winching scenarios. Having the proper tools is essential to safely and responsibly navigating rough terrain, and the Sawtooth’s premium components help you come through unscathed even through the most advanced recoveries.
The Factor 55 offers its Sawtooth Recovery Kit in both a medium version at $962 and a large version at $1,080. Learn more at Factor55.com.
It’s a dark morning at the trailhead and you need to grab that piece of gear from your truck before hiking in after elk. For many hunters this might be a time of head-scratching “now where did I put that” angst as the minutes tick away to daylight. Fortunately, you’ve installed a DECKED Drawer System in your pickup, and within seconds you have all your gear rolled out and at your fingertips.
Designed to fit the make, model and year of your truck, and made in the USA, the Drawer System solves the fundamental issue with hauling gear in pickups: access and organization. Exceptionally rugged, the weatherproof system is built to withstand the abuse of hunting and other outdoor activities with full-bed-drawers that slide out, providing easy access to everything inside. Weatherproof construction keeps moisture and dust at bay and allows for easy cleaning in a carwash. And the Drawer System top deck can handle up to 2,000 pounds (1,000 pounds for midsize trucks) meaning you won’t sacrifice payload capacity.
The Drawer system ships for free to your doorstep and is backed by a Limited Lifetime Warranty. After you’ve installed the system and you’ve organized all your gear and tools, secure them with the simple turn of a key (plus with your tailgate locked, the drawers are inaccessible.) At a price of $1,599.99, the Drawer System won’t break the bank while doubling the utility of your hunting truck bed. Learn more at Decked.com.
