Outside & Minam River Volunteer Project
“We, as humans, are designed to be outside.”
For Mickey Black of Bass Pro Shops, being outside with a bow in hand is therapeutic in nature, even “primal” and a great opportunity to create life-long memories while bonding with his children.
Join Mickey and his teenage son, who tagged along to witness his first elk hunt, as they travel more than 2,000 miles from Missouri to Coastal Oregon. Their outing triggers changing game plans, different approaches and all kinds of adrenaline.

Just a few years ago, it was private land but today it’s now publicly owned. The 15,500-acre Minam River Wildlife Area in northeast Oregon is the last remaining swath of elk winter range in the region not impacted by development. And its wildlife habitat is getting even better.
Follow along as nearly 100 Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and other volunteers return to the Minam to remove encroaching conifers from overcrowded aspen stands, plant shrubs for forage and take other steps to enhance habitat for elk, mule deer, wild turkey, other wildlife species all while increasing hunting opportunity.
